Ebola Update November 13, 2000 - Uganda -- Ebola Update
The World Health Organization (WHO) and the Uganda
Ministry of Health have
reported that the Ebola outbreak in the
Gulu District of Uganda is being
contained. They also report that the
cases in Mbarara district are under strict laboratory conditions and no new
cases in that area have been reported. Uganda might have been declared
Ebola-free if a 42 day period elapses with no new cases. However Doctors Without
Frontiers have uncovered an outbreak in a third area, 180 km northwest of
Kampala, see below.
The U.S. State Department has not imposed any
restrictions on travel to
or from Uganda and the same situation
prevails with other Embassies. Our sources in Uganda continue to monitor the
situation and as of 13 November have no reason to believe that travelers on
group itineraries need be
concerned, whether in the country now or planning to arrive in the near future.
The World
Health Organizations Disease Outbreak News
keeps up to
date on this and other outbreaks of the virus.
