Ebola No Longer A Threat per February Update

Bwindi National Park Update July, 2001---Travelers have returned to see the rare mountain gorillas in Uganda without incident for over two years since a fatal encounter with rebels, however you should review the June, 2001 announcement from the U.S. State Department which warns of potential dangers from rebel groups in nearby Rwanda.

In March of 1999 there was a tragic but single incident of kidnapping and murder by terrorist forces in the border area between the Congo (formerly Zaire) and Uganda.

Visitors to the area during year 2000 included personnel from the U.S. Embassy, who have made only day trips into Bwindi. The State Department discourages staying overnight in camps in or near Bwindi.

Talk to your own safari operator, and consult the U.S. State Department consular information sheets and travel warnings on Uganda, at www.travel.state.gov
